Professional Development Week 2014: PwC
As part of ASA’s Professional Development Week, students attended PwC’s offices in Southbank where they were able to experience firsthand the operations of a top- tier professional services firm. The day comprised an introductory speech by Campus Recruitment Advisor Grant, who gave the 20 enthusiastic first- and second-year Commerce students a reminder of ‘top tips and tricks’, as well pointers on what not to do in an interview situation. Students were then separated into three group rotations.
The first activity was a one-on-one mock interview session with some managers and HR representatives. This activity was the most rewarding as students were able to put into practice the skills required for the daunting professional interviews of the coming years. The interviewees were very friendly and enthusiastic and had plenty of knowledge and feedback to share with participants afterwards.
The second rotation involved a résumé review session. One by one, Hanna, a Campus Recruitment officer, proofread our résumés and made clever suggestions as to how to polish and perfect them for Vacationer, Graduate and other job prospects. As Hanna is a member of the recruitment team, it was highly valuable to gain an insight into what she and PwC are looking for when hiring.
The final session was an opportunity to network with HR representatives and ask them questions in regards to career opportunities at PwC, as well as asking any other questions we had about the firm – no matter how specific or broad.
Overall, the day was definitely an enriching experience for all who attended and comes highly recommended to all first- and second-year students for next year!
